        Why the XL+ Toolchanger Wins

        True Multi‑Material

Five tools and a huge print volume. Mix rigid, flexible, soluble, and different nozzle sizes in one job - perfect print quality, no cross-contamination.

        Fastest Tool Swaps

Super fast switching & top reliability. Tools are swapped in seconds, while filament-switching solutions waste dozens of seconds on purging and reloading.

        Zero purge waste

Save kilograms of filament in the long run. Each toolhead keeps its own nozzle, so multi-material jobs don’t fill a bin with kilograms of plastic scrap.

        Future‑Proof Platform

Swappable toolheads beyond just 3D printing and a wide range of upgrades & accessories. No vendor locks and full offline operation.

“Prusa XL is the best multi‑tool printer you can buy in 2026.”

Massive Build Volume, Standard Desktop Footprint

Large-Format 3D Printing on Any Workbench

Industrial large-format printing typically requires heavy three-phase power, custom ventilation, and a dedicated installation crew. The Prusa XL+ delivers a whopping 360 × 360 × 360 mm build volume in a footprint that easily fits on a standard workbench, weighs just 30 kg, and runs on a standard household outlet.

Designed to run unattended for days on end, the XL+ features smart filament runout sensors that pause and switch materials automatically, and robust power-loss recovery to resume printing seamlessly after power cuts. Perfect for workshops, labs, and design studios running weekend-long production prints.

        What the Press Says

The XL+ is brand new - independent review units go out at launch, and we'll link the verdicts here as they publish. Until then, the best predictor is the machine this one is built on: four years of Original Prusa XL reviews, owner reports, and print farms running around the clock. It's the same platform - perfected.

        What's new in XL+

The XL received a number of important upgrades that make the user experience and print quality better, speeds faster, and operation easier and even more reliable.

        XL Product Photo
        Faster calibration

The XL aligned its toolheads with a mechanical pin - accurate, but lengthy. The XL+ uses a dedicated electronic sensor to align toolheads fully automatically.

        Faster printing

The XL+ prints 10–15% faster than the XL. On a 60-hour prop print, that's roughly eight hours back - one more evening in the workshop, or one more batch per day in production.

        New Belts for Better Quality

The new GT1.5 belts also bring a visible improvement. They help make fine repeating artifacts less noticeable, which is especially useful on the large, smooth surfaces the XL is often used to print.

        Cooling rebuilt for long runs

New, improved cooling on individual toolheads leads to perfect print quality and outstanding overhang performance - your prints will look better and you'll need fewer supports. Plus, there are additional fans and heatsinks to cool down the electronics.

        A Nozzle Wiper

At the start of every print, every nozzle is cleaned using the nozzle wiper - more precise pre-print calibration, better looking prints.

        A reliable firmware foundation

Every feature we shipped across the whole Prusa lineup since the XL launched is in the XL+ out of the box.

Already own an XL? Upgrade now!

As with every Prusa 3D printer, we're giving you clear upgrade path.

What Makes It WorkThe Tech Behind the XL+

        Internally-Developed Toolchanger

Each self-contained XL+ toolhead carries its own extruder, hotend, nozzle, and filament. Parked heads stay preheated for instant material swaps and auto-power down when unused. It is still the market's largest, fastest, and only active toolchanger capable of swapping whole tool types.

Prusa XL+ toolchanger docks with parked toolheads

        Unique Segmented Heatbed

Huge single-piece heatbeds warp and waste power heating empty space. The XL+ solves this with 16 individually controlled tiles across its 360 × 360 mm surface, powering only the active print area to eliminate heat warping. Perfect first layer + power savings.

Prusa XL+ print area with the segmented heatbed

Loadcell: the nozzle is the sensor

The XL+ uses the Loadcell sensor to measure the distance between the nozzle and the print surface. This is the most accurate and reliable method in the entire industry. It automatically accounts for nozzle changes, surface textures, and thermal expansion - completely eliminating manual Z-offsets and surface reflection errors.

Macro detail of a Prusa nozzle tip

        Nextruder and quick-swap nozzles

The direct-drive Nextruder feeds filament with enough finesse for soft TPU and enough force for carbon-fiber composites, up to 290 °C. Nozzles can be swapped easily in minutes: 0.25 mm for miniature detail, 0.6 or 0.8 mm for speed, hardened steel for abrasives, high-flow CHT for production throughput. With five heads, one job can run five different nozzle strategies at once.

        Brass Prusa nozzle, product shot

        CoreXY motion, fine-tuned

A rigid CoreXY frame moves the light printhead instead of the heavy bed. Input Shaper cancels frame vibration, Phase Stepping smooths the motors themselves, and the XL+'s new 1.5 mm GT belts eliminate fine artifacts. You'll get both high speed and the perfect print quality in one package.

Prusa printer frame during a print

        Beyond plastic: swappable tool types

Because each toolhead is self-contained, the docks are really sockets for capabilities. A silicone-printing toolhead, co-developed with Filament2 and exclusive to the XL platform, arrives in Q4 2026 - you will be able to print with real silicone on a desktop machine.

XL+ with two different toolheads docked
The results exceeded our expectations and significantly influenced the expansion of 3D printing to our facilities.

        Best Security & Reliability

Why the XL+ is the number one choice for demanding industries.

        Perfect Repeatability

What you design is what you print: the loadcell-probed first layer, the rigid CoreXY frame and automatic per-toolhead offsets hold dimensions across reprints and across machines. Qualify a part once, then reprint it with the same quality.

        Reliability with a paper trail

Our own print farm logs over a million testing hours every quarter, and current-generation Prusa printers hold excepional print reliability there. The XL+ ships with every fix we prepared in the last two years - It's perfect, day one.

        The certifications HSE asks about

CE and FCC compliant. Prusa is the first consumer 3D printer maker with UL 2904 GREENGUARD certification for indoor emissions (MK4S with Prusament PLA/PETG), and the Advanced Filtration System covers shared workspaces. Prusa Research is ISO 9001, 14001 and 45001 certified.

Security your IT team can audit

Offline-first by design: no forced cloud, no phone-home, open-source firmware you can read, removable Wi-Fi module. Designed and manufactured in the EU and USA (including our own PCB production in Prague) with TAA-compliant configurations for government and defense procurement.
