    About Prusa Research

We are the largest maker of 3D printers in Europe and the United States.

Founded as a one-man startup in 2012 by Josef Prusa, a Czech hobbyist, maker, and inventor. In just 15 years, we've grown into a company of more than 1,200 people. Every month, we design, build, and ship over 10,000 innovative and secure 3D printers from our headquarters in Prague, Czech Republic, and Delaware, USA, to users in more than 160 countries.

Watch a video and find out how Prusa Research was born and what we achieved within only 10 years!

Your 3D printer might be the weakest link in your cyber security

Designed and manufactured in the EU and USA. Air-gapped by hardware, not by a software switch.

Secure from from CAD to printed part

True security is a governed workflow, not just an offline printer. The attack surface is minimised across the entire data lifecycle. Isolation is physical, not a menu toggle.

PrusaSlicer running locally without a network connection

Open, auditable software

PrusaSlicer is open-source and runs on your own workstation. No cloud account, no subscription, no telemetry calling home.

Prusa printer with no persistent mass storage

Zero residual data

No internal mass storage. Volatile memory, including SRAM used for print buffering, is wiped by a power cycle.

Hardware-encrypted USB transfer on a Prusa CI printer

No wireless radios

CI electronics are custom-made with no wireless radios. An RJ45 port remains for an isolated LAN. No internet access needed. Ever.

Prusa printer in a defence manufacturing environment

Camera-free workflows

Machines ship without optical cameras. Files can be moved on hardware-encrypted USB.

Open-source firmware that can be inspected and flashed offline

Offline firmware updates

Updates arrive on a USB package you stage, validate, and approve. No forced online updates, no phone-home.

Prusa CORE One L CI Edition operating offline

Optional LAN, never the internet

Run on a dead-end VLAN or with no network cable at all. Setup and day-to-day printing never ask for internet access.

Why Choose Prusa?

Certificates and compliance

ISO 9001, 14001 and 45001, TAA/NDAA, declarations of conformity, and Letters of Volatility.

  • ISO 9001, 14001 and 45001. Quality, environmental, and occupational health management, audited across EU and US production.
  • TAA and NDAA. Country-of-origin transparency for U.S. federal, military, and defence procurement.
  • Built in Prague and Delaware. We make our own electronics on our own PCB line.
  • Letters of Volatility. Available so reviewers can document what the printer stores and what a power cycle clears.
  • Open, auditable software. Firmware and PrusaSlicer are open source.

Prusa is the secure option

95% of desktop 3D printers sold are made by Chinese companies. Prusa is the remaining 5%. Country of origin matters.

All Chinese companies are required to cooperate with state intelligence (National Intelligence Law, 2017), hand over encryption keys (Cryptography Law, 2020), and provide data to authorities regardless of where it's stored - even on EU or US servers (Data Security Law, 2021). Product designs and 3D models a legitimate target too (2023 Counter-Espionage Law update).

There is a real risk that data on prints, design models, or production processes could be transmitted to servers beyond the user's control, including to the territory of the PRC.

Jurisdiction follows the company, not the server.

NATO armed forces trust Prusa printers

Relied upon by the majority of NATO militaries for rapid prototyping and tactical part production inside strict SCIF environments. Hardware-level air-gapping keeps operational readiness without an IT-security violation.

Data Volatility

Hardware architecture engineered for data hygiene. No mass storage, verified sanitisation, and I/O that stays under your control.

Verified volatile data sanitisation

System architecture: The product uses volatile GRAM for the xLCD unit and SRAM (260 kB on XLBuddy; 36 kB on Dwarf) for internal MCU functions and local graphical storage.

Sanitisation protocol: All volatile memory is sanitised through a standard power cycle. No operational data remains once power is removed.

Open-source Prusa firmware and tooling
For easy security audits

Open source - inspect every line

PrusaSlicer and the printer firmware are open source. Source is on our GitHub. Verify claims, run an independent audit, or compile and flash your own firmware.

The entire PrusaSlicer codebase is open, every module. There are no black boxes or DLLs downloaded at runtime.
