About PC Blend

Prusament PC Blend (PolyCarbonate) is the perfect material for stronger, more durable 3D prints.

Polycarbonates are a group of plastics that are known for their strength, mechanical durability, toughness, and temperature resistance. They are commonly used for the production of CDs, protective goggles, or car headlights.

The composition of pure polycarbonate is a material not suitable for 3D printing. It adheres very poorly to the print sheet, and due to its high thermal expansion, it has a tendency to deform and crack. We have added carefully-picked additives into the mix, improving the adhesion and reducing cracking and warping, while still maintaining the excellent properties of polycarbonate.

Prusament PC Blend is suitable for advanced users. If you are new to 3D printing, we recommend you to stick with easier to print materials such as PLA and PETG. PC Blend is recommended for experienced 3D printer owners looking for tough, durable material for production of prototypes and functional parts, thermally and mechanically stressed components.

Print sheet preparation

Prusament PC Blend can be printed on both smooth and textured print sheets. However, it’s required to spread a separating agent on the sheet before you start printing, otherwise the adhesion of the print may be too strong. The best way to prepare your print sheet is to apply a thin layer of paper glue onto the sheet. This is why we bundle a paper glue stick (KORES) to every PC Blend spool for free. Failing to add a separating layer may lead to the damage to your print sheet! While our documentation states that it’s not advised to apply glue onto the powder-coated textured steel sheet, the PC Blend is an exception. Do not use the glue onto the powder-coated textured steel sheet when printing with other materials (PLA, PETG, ASA, Flex, and others)!

After you finish printing and remove the object from the print sheet, use isopropyl alcohol to clean the print sheet thoroughly! Avoid cleaning the textured sheet with water - it may lead to corrosion.

This PC Blend is made in-house by Prusa Research.

1.75 mm filament is manufactured with a precision of ±0.03 mm.

The recommended maximum temperatures of drying for Prusament PC Blend are 60 °C for a minimum of 4 hours.

Prusament PC Blend has a new formula since 9. 6. 2021 The material density is now slightly lower than before, resulting in a minimal spool weight of 970 g. The approximate length of the filament is 330 m - the same length as the standard Prusament.

This filament is absolutely insane. I love the strength you can get from your parts. I have yet replaced many defect parts in our mechanical workshop, eg. pump propellers etc. which are constantly in contact with machine lubricant coolant. The parts work like a charm and are strong af. The downside is the printing. If I take breaks from PC for too long I forget about how hard it is and how much time you have to spend tuning the designs and settings until you get good parts. I have managed to get a very high rate without failures now. With the IKEA case and a very high focus on the printing environment. You get to love Prusament PETG even more after printing PC Blend, because it feels like a walk in the park. Other Awesome PC Blend (spare) parts: bottleopener solely PC, GP actioncam chestmount chestpiece 95% identical reprint, mudguards for mtbs,... all work like a charm. Almost forgot.. I finally replaced the FAN-SHROUD with a PC part! NO MORE BENDING!!!

Great filament, my new go to besides ASA. Strongest parts I've made. I print using the stock settings, I did increase support release offset in z from 0.1 to 0.2mm, and XY from 50% to 55% (may try higher). Suggest printing in an enclosure or at least using a skirt the height of your part to keep the heat in. Support material removal is easy once you figure it out, as the support material removes in large chunks.

This stuff is TOUGH. It does require a bit of a learning curve and temperature control with an enclosure helps tremendously. If you need something strong this is it.
