Fillamentum PLA Crystal Clear Iceland Blue 750g
Is it for me?
1.75mm PLA filament for use in 3D printers.
PLA is the most commonly used filament. It’s easy to print, and a very strong material. The perfect choice for printing large objects thanks to its low thermal expansion (little to no warping) and for printing tiny parts because of its low melting temperature. Only this material is proven for 50 microns layer height.
PLA has a relatively low melting temperature of about 175 degrees Celsius. Unlike so-called thermoset materials, PLA can be heated past its melting point multiple times with very little degradation. It’s also very hard material, but that also means it’s somewhat brittle, and once it breaks, it likes to shatter.
However, PLA is not a perfect material and, just like every other plastic, has some disadvantages. The low melting temperature also means low-temperature resistance. Parts start to lose mechanical strength at temperatures over 60 °C.
The combination of having low-temperature resistance and low UV-resistance means that it’s not ideal for outdoor use. Also, PLA is only soluble in chemicals like chloroform or hot benzene. So when connecting multiple pieces, you’re better off using just glue.
Even though PLA is on its own food safe, we do not suggest to repeatedly drink or eat from your 3D prints. Because of the small fractures on the print surface, bacteria can build up in there over time. You can prevent this by applying a food-safe coating. When post-processing PLA, it’s better to use wet sanding. Without water you'll quickly start heating the plastic by friction, it will melt locally and make it hard to keep sanding.
|Easy to print||Brittle|
|Can print tiny parts||Low temperature resistance|
|Can print huge objects||Difficult post-processing|
|Hard and tough|

After I was able to print successfully with about 15% of the filament, nothing works anymore. The filament keeps clogging the nozzle, even after cleaning and even replacing the nozzle, or after increasing the nozzle temperature. All other filaments print cleanly. Too bad, because the filament itself is very nice. However, I will not buy it again. The rest is then for the waste garbage can.
Hi, this is me again, sorry I tried to delete or edit my previous review on this filament but this option is no available, so here I go: My sincere apologize to Filamentum and PRUSA, this filament worked perfect after I cleaned and did maintenance to my PRUSA Mini, I would recommend it
The Filament Look Beautiful, but the main purpose of it is to be used for Printing, I was no able to print with it, after so many trials, it kept clogging my printing hot end, everything is OK with my MINI, I did follow the great customer service great advises on my MINI without good results with this Filament, all other Prusament and even the Prusa Basic Filaments I have keep working perfect, I could not figure what I have to do, I changed the temperature of first layers and other layer and it become worst, I used the Fillamentum Profile that came with the slicer and nothing improved my experience. I gave two stars because I am not an expert on it, but I have had my Prusa Mini for a year and I never had any problems neither with the printer nor with my other filaments, please be sure adding extra information on the Filament Spec sheet for inexpert user like me be able to use it , the money I spend buying it is hard for me to get, thanks!!!
