Original Prusa i3 MK3 3D Printer

MK3 is equipped with a revolutionary magnetic bed with easy-to-swap steel sheets!

We are using 256 microstepping Trinamic drivers and super silent Noctua fan!

The printer can recover from power loss. It also detects jammed extruder and run out of filament!

With all new Y-axis MK3's printing speed is 200+ mm/s, which is twice of MK2.

Thanks to new EINSY RAMBo motherboard, MK3 is compatible with Octoprint.

The Original Prusa I3 MK3 is the successor of the award-winning Original Prusa i3 MK2 3D printer. Our previous model is the winner of "3D PRINTER SHOOTOUT 2017" in prestigious MAKE: Magazine and for almost a year it's the best 3D printer according to 3Dhubs.com. But the new MK3 is even better! With rebuilt extruder, a plethora of sensors and the new magnetic MK52 heatbed with replaceable powder coated PEI spring steel print sheet we believe that we've developed our best 3D printer ever!

What we are proud of...

The most significant new features of Original Prusa i3 MK3

Filament sensor

Alt Text

Our optical filament encoder detects not only the presence of a filament, but also its movement. This means we can detect running out of the filament, pause the print and ask the user to insert a new spool. We can also detect stuck filament and offer the user a cold pull to clean the nozzle and continue the print.

Alt Text

MK3 has two new thermistors. The first one is measuring ambient temperature on the electronics and helps us to detect board or connector failures. The second one is embedded in the P.I.N.D.A. 2 probe and it allow us to compensate temperature drift, so the first layer will always be spot on!

Power Panic

Alt Text

Did you ever accidentally tripped over your extension cord and lost a 20-hour print? MK3 will save you! The printer can fully recover from the loss of power. A special sensor detects power interruption and immediately shuts down the heatbed and extruder heating.

RPM sensing fans and Noctua

Alt Text

To increase the reliability of the printer, we have added sensors to the cooling fans. In the case of an extruder cooling getting stuck with a piece of filament, both fans can now measure RPMs and notify a user about the problem. And one more thing - the nozzle cooling fan is now made by Noctua and it's super silent!

EINSY RAMBo motherboard

Alt Text

We co-developed the new EINSY (named after Einstein) RAMBo motherboard together with Ultimachine, and we believe, it is the most advanced 3D printer board out there. It still has many tricks up its sleeve. A neat trick is the monitoring of power. This enables us to detect blown fuses.

Trinamic drivers

Alt Text

Trinamic2130 drivers with 256 microstepping are extremely quiet. At least in silent mode. In normal mode, which is still quieter than 99% of the available printers, they can also detect lost steps. This has big implications. The printer can detect shifted layers, rehome and continue the print without a problem!

New Y-axis

Alt Text

The most wanted feature was an improved frame rigidity. We are now introducing the reworked Y axis from aluminium extrusion. It provides the same rigidity as some other printers while providing the sleek look of our milled Dural frame. The frame is also optimized to add 10 mm of Z height totaling at 210 mm.

Magnetic PEI sheet

Alt Text

The new MK52 Magnetic HeatBed has embedded high curie temperature magnets inside. These hold replaceable alloy spring steel sheets powder coated with PEI. PEI is directly on metal, so when you crash the nozzle into it, metal can dissipate the heat and prevent the surface damage.

Bondtech extruder

Alt Text

The extruder is now upgraded to a genuine Bondtech drive gear. It grips the filament from both sides, increasing the push force of the filament and making it more reliable, especially for flexible filaments. When we are at the extruder, the print cooling fan now cools part from two sides, increasing the overhang performance.

Frequently asked questions

What about the upgrade?

Let’s talk upgradability now. We have over 30 000 MK2s in the wild now. We’ve been offering upgrades to the latest version in the past. Everyone who bought our Prusa i3 2.85mm could upgrade to MK1, then to MK2 and then to MK2S. Do you know any other company that would care so much on their products?

So, even though almost all the components are needed to be replaced, it will be possible to upgrade from MK2/S to MK3. Unfortunately, the price is not very upgrade-friendly and you could practically build a second MK2 from the leftovers.

If you don’t need a full MK3 upgrade, we have the second best option for you, the MK2.5 upgrade. It gives you the best features of magnetic bed with spring steel sheet, whole new extruder head with Bondtech and Noctua fan goodness and also the P.I.N.D.A. 2 bed leveling sensor and filament sensor. The retail MK2 to MK2.5 upgrade price is $199. If MK2S was bought during the last 30 days before this release, it is just $99. If you bought MK2/S before, ever, it will be $149 for you. I know it’s a really great deal but the magnetic heatbed and the extruder improvements are extremely useful and we want to spread them rapidly.

Will the MK2 Multi Material from MK2/MK2S be compatible with MK3/2.5?

Yes, if you already have Multi Material for MK2/S, you will be able to buy missing components (4x filament sensors) separately for approx. 50 USD and use the upgrade for MK3.

What about the new surface? I like its look but I need a smooth surface for some parts.

It probably won't be ready for launch but we’re going to have sheets with different “roughness” and also we’re testing the right glue to use regular PEI sheets as a surface option as well. They will available to buy separately.

I just got my MK2S couple days ago and I don't like it has been discounted since.

We're offering a 100 USD discount (or price it has been lowered for in other currencies) as a discount for MK2.5 upgrade or you just use it as a credit voucher in our e-shop for anything else you would like. Please don't contact our support about that right now (they really have too much on their plate at this moment), we're going to send an e-mail with vouchers during the next week. And do not forget, you can print now for whole 2 months with an award-winning MK2S while others will still be waiting for MK3. 🙂 MK3 prints just as good as MK2S, it just has more convenience features.

My MK2S is still unshipped...

.. yes, we will refund you the price difference or change it for MK3 with an additional payment of the price difference. We do care!
